Staff profile – Keegan Du Preez
Keegan, 23, is a dedicated financial professional with a deep passion for both accounting and investing. Since joining ECJ on August 1st, 2022, coinciding with the opening of the firm’s Walsh Bay office, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to financial excellence and continuous learning. Even outside of work, Keegan actively explores investment opportunities to expand his nearly $4 million property portfolio, reflecting his genuine enthusiasm for the field.
His career journey began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, followed by an initial role in tele-sales before transitioning into accounting. At ECJ, Keegan is further advancing his expertise by working toward his Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification, with the goal of becoming a fully accredited professional.
Among the items on his desk, one he reflects on most is a trophy from a staff retreat; a lasting symbol of teamwork and shared success. For Keegan, it’s ECJ’s supportive and collaborative culture that truly sets it apart. “What sets ECJ apart for me is the close relationships between directors and employees, reinforced by regular, insightful meetings. I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside my director, Elissa Lippiatt, whose guidance has been instrumental in my professional and personal growth. A mentor of note”
Keegan also continues his passion by publishing articles alongside the Australian Dental Association (ADA), offering valuable insights to dental professionals, whether sole contractors or practice owners, on how to be more commercially savvy with their assets and implement the right structures to optimise tax outcomes.
Keegan appreciates the unique opportunities at ECJ, particularly the broad exposure to different aspects of the business. “”The learning curve at ECJ is much steeper, in the best way, because I get direct exposure to the real-world challenges our directors face and how they navigate them. Being part of those conversations accelerates my growth and skill development in ways that larger corporate environments often can’t replicate.”
Outside of finance, Keegan enjoys playing golf, hiking and helping others get onto the property ladder. These activities help him maintain a healthy work-life balance. The quiet moments also seem to kickstart his humour, leaving him with plenty of new jokes to unleash 😉.
