Two months ago, 23-year-old William Wallis started his working career in the ECJ accounting team, having just finished his four-year Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Wollongong. While having lots of experience in customer service, accounting and finance was something completely new. Never having worked in an office, and without any accounting background, truly a scary yet courageous step.
But why did Will decide to apply at ECJ? “I wanted to get a closer look behind the scenes and how the processes work. That’s why I really enjoy the individual tax returns. I can see how they may be applicable even to myself in the future and I may be able to benefit from it”, he says. After only a short time at ECJ, Will’s impression is that everyone is easy going and wants to help him overcome any challenges he encounters.
That’s why, according to Will, especially when starting a job, you must go in willing to learn new things and embrace all challenges. “I learned that talking and getting to know everyone and not being afraid to ask really helps. The managers at ECJ are great teachers and put no pressure on me, but instead make learning easy,” Will appreciates.
Another important thing, Will noticed, is that it’s important to find a workplace that you really enjoy coming to – just like the new office at Walsh Bay. His commute is easy, the office has a nice layout, and there’s a very strong work culture. Perhaps these are the reasons why William can truly imagine himself working at Ecovis Clark Jacobs, even in the distant future, to expand his knowledge and become a C.A.
