We asked our accountants to answer some insider questions about their experience in the profession, here’s what they had to say:

1. What do you find most rewarding about being an accountant?

It’s fulfilling to know that your expertise not only helps businesses thrive and comply with government standards, but also fosters meaningful connections where clients feel valued and express their gratitude in tangible ways (the gifts are a perk too!). It’s also a great way to get to know people from all walks of life.

2. What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone starting their career in accounting?

Begin pursuing professional certifications, like CA or CPA as early as possible. If your employer is qualified for a mentorship program or offers support for these credentials, take advantage of it right away. Starting early helps you build a strong foundation, manage study commitments effectively, and position yourself for greater opportunities in the future.

3. What’s a common misconception people have about accounting?

A common misconception is that it’s a boring number-crunching job that requires accountants to be quick human calculators (you don’t even necessarily need to be good at maths). In reality, while numbers are certainly a part of the job, modern accounting goes far beyond simple arithmetic. Accountants play a strategic role in decision-making, financial planning, and advising businesses on growth strategies.
